Why Dribbling Matters
Dribbling is the foundation of football. It allows you to keep possession, beat defenders, and create space for your team. Every great player started by mastering close ball control.
Key Techniques
1. Inside-of-foot dribbling
Use small, controlled touches with the inside of your foot. Keep the ball close — within one step of your feet at all times.
2. Outside-of-foot dribbling
Useful for quick direction changes. Push the ball gently with the outside of your foot while staying balanced on your other leg.
3. Sole rolls
Roll the ball back and forth under the sole of your foot. This builds touch sensitivity and is great for tight spaces.
Practice Drill
Set up 5-6 cones in a zigzag line, 1 meter apart. Dribble through using alternating inside/outside touches. Repeat 10 times, focusing on speed and control.
Common Mistakes
- Looking down at the ball constantly — practice glancing up to check surroundings
- Ball too far from the foot — keep touches small
- Stiff body posture — stay relaxed and balanced
Master these basics and your overall ball control will improve dramatically across all areas of the game.
