Inside-Foot Passing Technique

The Most Important Pass in Football

The inside-foot pass is the most common and accurate passing technique. It is used for short and medium-range passes and forms the backbone of team play.

How to Execute It

1. Plant foot placement

Place your non-kicking foot beside the ball, pointing toward your target.

2. Foot angle

Turn your kicking foot outward so the inside of your foot (the flat part) faces the ball.

3. Contact point

Strike the middle of the ball with the inside of your foot. Keep your ankle locked for accuracy.

4. Follow-through

Follow through toward your target — your foot should point where the ball is going.

Practice Drill

Pair up with a partner 8-10 meters apart. Pass the ball back and forth using only inside-foot passes. Focus on accuracy first, then increase speed. Do 20 reps each foot.

Common Mistakes

  • Striking with the toe instead of the inside of the foot — reduces accuracy
  • Not locking the ankle — causes the ball to wobble
  • Looking at your feet instead of the target

Consistent practice of this pass will make your distribution faster and more reliable in matches.
